Dr. Saayan Chattopadhyay (Ph.D, M.Phil, M.A.)
is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Baruipur College, affiliated with the University of Calcutta.His PhD from Jadavpur University focuses on the discursive construction of masculinities in Bengali newspapers. Chattopadhyay has published articles in Journalism Practice, Media Asia, South Asia Research, Studies in South Asian Film and Media, Media Watch, tripleC, and Journal of Boyhood Studies. He has also contributed chapters in books on media, digital culture and gender published by Oxford University Press, Palgrave Macmillan, Sage, Wiley-Blackwell, Springer, Routledge, Lexington Books, and Sussex Academic Press, among others. He is also the recipient of UGC -Minor Research Project in Humanities & Social Sciences (2013), IAMCR, K E Eapen Fellowship for Early Career Researchers (2014) and ICA Divisional Grant and Travel Grant (2016). He has served as the Editorial Board member of a number of journals, including The Journal of Men’s Studies (Sage) and Digital Journalism (Routledge). He has presented research papers in seminars held at IIT Bombay, Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh, ICA Fukuoka, Japan, South Asian University, Delhi, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Goa, IAMCR- Hyderabad, Nalanda University, Rajgir, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka to mention a few. His research interests include neoliberal media, masculinities studies, and techno-culture in developing countries. . |
